The Gladiator 631 Next project was launched at the end of 2019 with the idea of creating the most reliable and high-performance yacht ever built, with the lowest fuel consumption per nautical mile ratio. Canados partnered with naval architect Simone Cesati, an expert in high-tech composite construction and race boat builder.
The boat concept focused on creating a model that:
- would reach the 50-knot mark with very conventional engines, optimizing reliability with minimal maintenance requirements;
- would be extremely easy to handle, so an owner could drive the boat themselves;
- would redefine the concept of a day cruiser boat with large outdoor social spaces, while offering two of the three cabins with enough comfort and luxury for long-term cruising;
- would allow for a significant top speed while being able to cruise all day at 35 knots consuming at least 30% less fuel than any other yacht in the category.
To achieve these results, the technical department of Canados and Simone Cesati opted for truly innovative new technologies. In short, the weight-to-power ratio had to be kept below 10 kg per hp. As a result, the Gladiator 631 Next weighs no more than 18.5 tons while all other 20-meter boats on the market range between 24 and 26 tons. This significant weight saving could not be achieved by reducing structures but had to be found in technology, materials, and lightweight interior construction, while hydrodynamics had to be very advanced, including Kevlar and carbon fiber.
