Built from Scots pine by the Pedruicos shipyard in Lisbon, Albarquel was the first Portuguese coastal trader to be fitted with an engine right from launch. Originally designed to transport salt between the Sado salt pans and Portuguese ports, this sailing yacht has gone through many eras and refurbishments, becoming a pleasure boat with voyages in Northern Europe, South America and beyond.
Since 2023, Albarquel sails in Charente-Maritime, aiming to promote ecological and environmentally friendly navigation, while offering cruises and onboard training.
Equipment and comfort onboard
Albarquel can accommodate up to 28 passengers at sea and 50 passengers at quay. Its solid wood fittings include:
- Several cabins equipped with single and double beds, with heating and washbasins.
- A fully equipped galley (oven, microwave, stove, refrigerator, freezer).
- A large saloon seating 12 people.
- An independent wheelhouse with all necessary navigation instruments (GPS, VHF, compass, etc.).
Recent renovations
The deck and superstructures were fully redone in 2008, and the entire rigging as well as the interiors have undergone careful restorations. The main Cummins engine has also been serviced to ensure optimal performance.
Why choose Albarquel?
Albarquel offers a rare balance between tradition and modernity. It is perfect for varied projects: cruises, expedition sailing, private events or training in traditional sailing navigation.
