Discover the HYLAS 51 OCEAN RACE, an exceptional sailing yacht combining speed and elegance, designed to impress both with its performance and high-end comfort. Imagined by the renowned naval architect German Frers, this yacht stands out for its unique design, with original plans still available. It offers a perfect balance between sophisticated equipment, meticulous livability, and unparalleled sailing pleasure.
With a draft of 2.6 meters and an impressive mast height of 23 meters, this sailboat is equipped with 14 winches spread across the deck, ensuring optimal sail management. Capable of sailing at more than 30° to the wind even in moderate conditions, it benefits from remarkable stability thanks to a significant ballast load, guaranteeing constant safety and good mood on board. Its ease of reefing and maneuverability make it accessible to amateurs while offering seasoned sailors a multitude of adjustment options.
The superstructure design ensures a secure and comfortable maneuvering space, even in rough seas. One can sail wet at the bow while remaining perfectly sheltered in the teak cockpit, where the sea seems to dissolve beneath the hull. This sailboat cuts through waves with ease and responds to commands with the precision of a dinghy.
This HYLAS 51 has had four owners, all passionate about peaceful cruising, without participation in regattas or navigation in extreme conditions. The yacht is ready to obtain an ORC certificate and has already been certified for commercial trips (See-BG certificate expired in 2014, confirmed in 2018 but never used). Its recent upgrades include a complete overhaul of the running rigging in 2018, a new gelcoat applied in 2020, and antifouling completed in 2022.
Electrically, the boat features a comprehensive setup: bi-directional AIS (800), MeteoFax and EU-Weatherbox weather system on long waves, autopilot with remote control, Garmin GPSMAP 8417 MFD multifunction GPS plotter, Garmin radar, VHF VHF 215i installed at the navigation station with an extra unit in the cockpit, frontal depth sounder, and satellite phone preparation.
The deck is equipped with a 15 kg CQR anchor with 50 meters of chain and a scope, an electric windlass, seven Victron batteries (six of 115 Ah and one 100 Ah starting battery from 2020), a Victron 35A battery charger, tri-color and standard LED courtesy lighting, two automatic bilge pumps and three manual ones, an inox swim ladder, and a Windex GNX renewed in 2018. Twelve Barient winches (including eight 27ST, two 32ST, and two 24ST) and two electric four-speed winches (37ST for genoas) facilitate all maneuvers.
The interior prioritizes comfort with a 40-liter Isotherm water heater (230V/engine, installed in 2020), a Katadyn Power Survivor desalinator, a Victron 1500W inverter (24V to 230V), and a programmable Webasto ThermoPro 90 heater system. The galley is equipped with a refrigerator and a freezer of about 30 liters (operating on 24V/230V), a Force10 3-burner gas stove, an oven with grill, and two sinks.
For safety, a life raft approved for 12 persons completes the equipment. Regarding sails, this yacht is equipped with a dedicated spinnaker rig with a carbon boom and an aluminum jockey boom, as well as a rigid hydraulic halyard from Navtek operated from the helm station.
Among the other key features are a Gori folding three-blade propeller with overdrive function for increased energy efficiency, two alternators for 12V and 24V, stainless steel fuel lines, tubular heaters under the aft berths and in the saloon, and an aluminum radiator at the front of the deck. Additional anchors and moorings ranging from 15 to 20 meters were added between 2018 and 2020.
Finally, the sailboat comes with a complete set of older sails, including two large sails, several genoas including a very large one for flying the bow, as well as six standard and eight inflatable wings that are easy to store and inflate with a dedicated pump.
