Description

1998 J/120 - high performance sailing cruiser ready to sail
This 1998 J/120 is an excellent example of what J Boats does best: a fast, lightweight, safe, and enjoyable offshore cruising sailboat. The boat has recently undergone significant structural work, as well as a complete upgrade of the rig, sails, and safety equipment, making it particularly reassuring for those seeking a high-performance sailing yacht without surprises.
The vessel is owned by a French company, which allows, in the case of purchase by a European VAT-eligible company, to recover/deduct the VAT on the acquisition.

Construction and hull
The hull and deck are built using high-tech balsa/fiber glass sandwich construction, employing the vacuum "Scrimp system," renowned for its rigidity, controlled weight, and durability. The hull and deck were molded by TPI Composites (USA) and finished by J Composites in France, ensuring excellent workmanship.
The deck features a two-tone non-slip surface. The hull is finished in an elegant "Flag Blue" gelcoat with white fairleads and waterline stripe.
Major recent work:
Complete sanding of the hull and thorough preparation of the wetted surfaces.
Full rework of the keel/hull joint by a professional.
Newly refitted interior linings for a clean and healthy interior.

The lead keel is mounted on a molded reinforcment, and the boat is managed by a balanced spade rudder mounted on an anodized aluminum stock. The steering wheel has a new Carbonautica wheel (2023), providing precision and comfort.
Power is supplied by a Volvo Penta MD2040B inboard diesel engine, driving a Gori folding propeller on a stainless steel shaft, with a 110-liter fuel tank.

Rigging, fittings, and deck
The boat is equipped with an aluminum Sparcraft mast and boom, featuring a sleek profile and two sets of aerodynamic spreader bars. Special attention has been paid to:
Full replacement of standing rigging in 2023.
New Profurl roller furling (2023).
Retractable carbon fiber bowsprit, ideal for Code 0 and asymmetrical spinnakers.
Lazy jacks and reef bands for easy single-handed operation.
Jackstays in place.

The deck hardware is racing-quality:
2 primary Harken 48ST winches.
4 Harken 44ST winches for halyards and main sheet.
Spinlock ratchet blocks for halyards and sheets.
Harken genoa tracks with adjustable cars from the cockpit.
Harken jib track.
Harken mainsail sheet track.

Deck safety features include bow and stern pushpits, double lifelines, and a swim ladder on the transom.
