1998 J/120 – high-performance cruiser-racer, ready to sail
This 1998 J/120 is an excellent example of what J Boats does best: a true fast cruising yacht, lightweight, safe, and enjoyable to live aboard. Recent significant structural work has been carried out, along with a complete upgrade of the rig, sails, and safety equipment, making this boat particularly reassuring for those seeking a high-performance sailing yacht without surprises.
The boat is owned by a French company, enabling, in case of purchase by a European company subject to VAT, the recovery/deduction of VAT on the acquisition.
Construction and hull
The hull and deck are built using high-tech balsa/fiberglass sandwich, with vacuum infusion via the “Scrimp system,” known for its rigidity, lightness, and durability. The hull and deck were molded by TPI Composites (USA) and finished by J Composites in France, ensuring high-quality finish.
The deck features a two-tone non-slip coating. The hull is finished in elegant “Flag Blue” gelcoat with white stripes and waterline.
Major recent work:
Complete removal of the hull and full preparation of the hull side.
Keel-to-hull joint fully renewed by a professional.
Refinished teak toe rail for a clean and healthy interior.
The lead keel is fixed onto a molded sump, and the boat is controlled by an balanced rudder mounted on anodized aluminum mèche. The helm is equipped with a new Carbonautica wheel (2023), offering precision and comfort.
Engine is a Volvo Penta MD2040B inboard diesel, driving a Gori folding propeller on a stainless steel shaft, with a 110-liter fuel tank.
Rigging, fittings, and deck
The yacht is equipped with an aluminum Sparcraft mast and boom, with a tapered mast and two levels of aerodynamically designed spreaders. Notably cared for:

Spinlock rope clutches for sheets and halyards.
Harken headsail tracks with adjustable cars from the cockpit.
