Competence and Reliability

Doeve Courtiers / Sworn Experts work both nationally and internationally. Among other things, by placing our entire range of boats for sale on national and international websites, regularly publishing ads in a number of nautical magazines here and abroad, and exchanging data regarding our boats for sale with many external fellow brokers.

Doeve Courtiers / Sworn Experts are specialists in the fields of:

• Mediation in purchase and sale of motor yachts and sail boats and especially for (former) commercial ships, whether or not already converted for living and/or navigation, lying in the country and abroad.
• Surveys, including international ones (on behalf of banks and tax authorities, for asset separations, etc.).
• Registration in the Dutch cadastral register (for inland vessels), registration and transfer, as well as deregistration of boats in the register. Upon request, we conduct research in foreign cadastral registers.

Craftsmanship

Doeve, Courtiers / Sworn Experts, started under the name “Scheepskoopers Jachtmakelaardij” (Scheepskoopers Yacht Brokerage) in Vlaardingen (Netherlands) in 1972. We operated not only boat brokerage but also a shipyard in Lelystad (NL) from 1977 to mid-1996. Between 1988 and 1996 we had a second agency with a sales port in Hellevoetsluis (NL). We sold Scheepskoopers Yacht Brokerage in 1996. Our brokerage company then restarted under the name “Sander Doeve Jachtmakelaardij” (Sander Doeve Yacht Brokerage). The brokerage company was converted into a V.O.F. (general partnership) in 2009 under the name ‘Doeve Courtiers and Appraisers of boats and ships’. In 2001 Jitse Doeve joined the company. Before that, he had sailed for several years on the Rhine and inland and coastal waterways. In 2016 Rick Buis joined the team in Vlaardingen (NL).

The Brokers

The EMCI certificate (European Maritime Certification Institute):

A sworn and certified broker / expert is your guarantee for competence and reliability (emci-register.com). He/she has been thoroughly tested for certification regarding acquired knowledge, business understanding, and has been examined for integrity (his/her business history). He/she must provide evidence of ongoing education every year. The broker is also a voluntary participant in EMCI’s disciplinary and complaints law. In case of misconduct, the institute can revoke his/her certificate. EMCI stands for: European Maritime Certification Institute. An independent institute (SA) recognized by the “Lloyd's Register.”

Reliability

Doeve Courtiers / Sworn Experts are Hiswa Qualified Yacht & Ship Brokers. A broker recognized by the Dutch association of nautical professionals (HISWA). We operate according to the brokerage conditions of HISWA. These are established in good agreement with the ANWB, the ‘Consumentenbond’ and ‘Consumentencontact’ (the defenders of Dutch consumers' interests). The brokerage conditions are accepted by the “SER” (the Netherlands Economic and Social Council). In case of dispute with a HISWA-recognized broker, clients can make use of the nautical dispute commission in The Hague (NL).

Regarding payments and handling of temporary third-party funds, Doeve Courtiers / Sworn Experts has a foundation for handling third-party funds.
The foundation is legally completely separated from Doeve Courtiers / Sworn Experts and thus provides security for buyers and sellers!

The company Doeve Courtiers / Sworn Experts is a member of HISWA (www.hiswa.nl). Jitse and Rick are personally affiliated with the NBMS (Dutch Yacht Brokers Association) www.nbms.nl.
